The Challenge
SoilEx Environmental were engaged by S.A.C Construction Ltd (SAC) to assist with the contamination and waste management aspects of a residential development in cambridge. A pre-existing commercial property had been demolished and the made ground was found to contain significant amounts of chrysotile asbestos cement fragments. The initial quote received by SAC was to simply remove the waste to landfill, with significant costs attached.
The Solution
Following a site visit and additional testing SoilEx implemented a waste treatment plan on site to promote waste recovery and identify significant savings in the process. The process implemented by SoilEx took less than 2 weeks to complete and removed the hazardous asbestos fragments from the remainder of the waste, leaving non hazardous soils and recyclable demolition waste.
The Result
Not only did this reduce the volume of waste to landfill by 50%, it also removed significant landfill tax liabilities, increased re-cycling rates and saved our client tens of thousands of pounds in the process.
